Carolyn's and Womack's Adventures

In view of Carolyn's recent adventure, I found this entry in Mother's journal that I thought you might find of interest:

"Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1964: David called tonight to tell us that Carolyn had a very serious appendectomy this afternoon. Three doctors worked with her for two hours and her appendix burst while they were operating. They thought she was doing all right when he called. Velma was staying the night with her in the hospital.

"Thursday, Feb. 20: Had a letter from Velma. Carolyn is still in the hospital and may be for another week or ten days, but seems to be doing as well as can be expected. Velma got her school assignments for her so she can study some there."

Since I talked with Carolyn on the phone the other day, I guess it worked out okay! And, by the way, I'm glad she's doing okay from her recent adventure!!! And if you don't know about her recent adventure, you need to ask her.

Here are some excerpts from a letter that Air Cadet Henry Womack Stroman wrote home on Nov. 12, 1942 while in training at NAS Corpus Christi:

"I haven't heard from Sis in some time now. I guess they are busy as usual. ...Daddy, I'm glad you liked your birthday present. I wish I could have gotten it there on your birthday (which was Nov. 4). How are the beans doing? Do you think you'll make much on them? I hope I can come home again before too long. We haven't been flying much this week because of the weather. But I flew two hours this morning. It was a little cool at about five thousand feet but it was nice and smooth. If I keep on flying every day, I should be through with instrument squadron in about a week. Then I'll go into advanced squadron and, maybe I can get a half day off on Saturday and come home. ...This is all the paper I have until I buy some more ...so I'll close for now. Billy, I'll answer your letter as soon as I get some more paper."

Well, that's about all the adventure I can stand for today, so I'll close too. See you next edition!

Ruby's Journal for June 16, 1965 and forward: The Abla's visit, etc.

"Martha Jan and Eddie and Marsha came about 9:30 PM. They stayed until Sunday, June 20, 4:30 PM. We enjoyed their visit so much. They and Bill and Martha went to Matamoros, Mex., Thursday PM. Friday evening we all went to Padre Island and took supper. The Bethany Quartet was here Wed. evening and sang and Bill Sullivan preached. Thursday morning Bill Stroman and Eddie (Abla) and Robert Joines went with some of them to Padre Island for a swim.

"Our new pastors came in that morning, Thursday, June 17, and Martha had them, Rev. and Mrs. Russell Harris and daughters, Dolores and Cheryl (?), at her house for dinner, so Martha Jan went over to help her.

"We were happy to have Eddie and Martha Jan sing for us Sunday morning and Bro. Harris brought his first message - a Father's Day message - to the church.

"Jan and Eddie and Marsha left about 4:30 to go to Midland to visit with friends a day or two, then go to Colorado to spend a week with his folks. Boyd and Janice called and talked with us one night while they were here - Thursday night, I believe."

So there you have it for today. I'll try to get another posting out before another 90 days goes by! :-)
